1.
Why do you do 5 tests?
We
do 5 tests so that 5 aspects of you as a person are surveyed for occupational
matches. For example, if we did only an abilities test, the results
might recommend jobs that you would do well in but that you have no
interest in. We do a personality inventory because many times when people
are unhappy in their jobs, it’s because they feel they don’t
fit in and they can’t understand why.
2.
Why do you use those 5 tests in particular?
I
use the five tests that I do for several reasons. Dr. Cookson, my trainer
and mentor, had every possible vocational test at his disposal because
he held a doctorate. He carefully chose this package of tests, in particular.
I
like the format of the results. For the most part, clients are given
more than a chart with lines or dots on it. They are given sentences
in plain language with a minimum of jargon.
The
16PF, the Strong Interest Inventory, and the Values Scale are premier
tests in their classes. The Comprehensive Ability Battery is comparable
to the better known GAT-B but takes much less time. In all cases, Canadian
teens and adults were included in the norming groups.
3.
Why doesn't the Board of Education provide testing?
I
assume they don’t provide testing of the caliber that Aptitude
Plus offers because they don’t have enough funds. Education is
their main concern and the budget is stretched to the breaking point
already.
4.
What if I have questions weeks after I’ve received my results?
On
the first page of your report are my business phone number and my e-mail
address. I keep a copy of your report for 5 years so I can look up your
record any time up till then. There is no charge for a phone consultation.
Sometimes,
a client wants a longer session of discussion or additional job descriptions,
etc. There would be a minimal charge for that service.
5.
Should I take my results to my guidance counselor?
Absolutely,
if you’d like to. I would imagine your guidance counselor would
be happy to have additional information to help you to choose courses.
6.
Why do you record on tape or CD the results interview for me?
I
do that so that you don’t have to take notes during the explanation
if you don’t want to. In addition, sometimes teens want to receive
the results alone but parents want an explanation too.
Parents
are welcome to call or email if they have questions after the interview
also, at no charge.
7.
Is there anyone the tests aren’t suitable for?
The
tests are designed for people for whom English is the first language.
In addition, the results are based on comparisons with a database made
up of people raised in a North American culture and education system.
